Community DNA and High Throughput Sequencing
Community DNA and HTS allows us to genetically identify and profile complex and microscopic communities of fungi and bacteria.
Using the latest bioinformatic approaches, we are able to take massive datasets of genetic sequences and transform them into lists of species that comprise our complex belowground communities.
Spatial influences play a large role in assembling biological communities. Spatial patterns are often hard to detect due to the nature of the data required. To better understand how a single novel taxa is spatially influencing the native community of plants and microbes, we are using photo mosaics to spatially map the location and coverage of plant species. These mosaics are assembled from over 80 photos each!
